Sausage Lunch 2017

Sausage lunch Sunday 22nd January 2017

About 18 walkers turned up at Kirtling Village Hall for the 10a.m.start. Phil led us, intrepid as ever, over hill and down dale via Kirtling Church with fine Norman entrance and pre-daffodil Kirtling Tower. The bright blue skies belied the sub-zero chill of the air and fresh mistiness. Truly a glorious morning for a ramble, provided you avoided the snagging brambles and ice-rinks masquerading as puddles.

We returned, invigorated, by 12.30 to the Hall to find a busy bevy of beauties (and Peter) broiling bangers and beans. The committee had been busy since our departure with preparing bangers and mash as well as lots of donated puds and custard; a right royal repast for hungry ramblers and another 20 non-walkers amongst which it was good to see several of our founder members – Beryl,  Kath, Gerald and Evelyne, Faith and Oscar. With the chefs, a group of  over 40 thus enjoyed a perfectly presented bargain winter's day lunch.

After lunch we had another successful raffle run by Maureen with spoils going to all the wrong people – I must mark the stubs better! Hilary then tested our knowledge of famous faces, occupations, trees, counties and map-reading, which made us all realise we should get out more. We were happily tired by the time 4p.m.loomed and it only remains to give hearty thanks to all who laboured to set up the Hall, to those who toiled in a hot kitchen, and to Hilary for organising the afternoon quiz, bent pins or not! Bring on next year!

AGM 2016

The 2016 AGM was held on November 6th 2016 at Kirtling Village Hall. After a morning walk in surprisingly good weather, a delicious lunch of soup and bread was served before the meeting. Reports of the year's activities were given and the committee was elected. Sue & Phil were presented with a small gift in recognition of all the work they do for the group.  The Chairperson thanked everyone for their support during the year & for the catering arrangements. The afternoon ended with tea and cakes.
